I have to say, this is one of the best sites I have come across that gives us some major information with regards to the heritage of Leek and the Nicholson War Memorial. It has been fantastic reading through this site and really hits home what some of these people did for both town and country, things like the story of Harold Birchenough writing home asking for some soap and the next day, was never seen again brought a lump to my throat. Many thanks to all that contribute to this site and long may it continue, so that future generations can benefit from the history.
Great site , well done on putting all this information together in one place
Thank you for taking the time to put this web site together. I was told about it by my cousin Norman Heath just recently I am 95 years old I was 2 yrs old when the Monument was dedicated. I have just completed a trip back to Leek to see the town, see relatives and look at the mills I worked at. The old film of the dedication is amazing, so many of the buildings are the same today. You cant beat keeping your heritage. Well done to Leek and their people and well done the memmorial.org.
